The Butler Mfg. Company of Kansas City, Mo., is now producing an all metal house, consisting of aluminum over a steel frame. 1. Packaged house arrives at foundation. 2. Wall panels are keyed together. 3. Inside walls may be plastic-covered. 4. Finished two~room home is designed to sell for $7,000.

Hutchinson, Kansas - Four ex-GI's, unable to find suitable housing, went to a war housing project near Wichita, 65 miles away, bought the houses shown above, and had them trucked to their new locations. Here the houses make a strange sight in the heart of the city's business district.
Rows and rows of "houses" - and all of them empty - would seem to offer a haven for desperate house hunters, were it not for the fact that the "houses" are composed of tremendous;.&tacks of empty apple boxes which are piled up like this because there are not warehouses for the millions of boxes used in the apple season. Roofs are added to protect the boxes.
