In a novel contest staged at Ocean Park, Calif .. the judges were assigned the difficult job of selecting the prettiest legs. Nothing else counted. The judges narrowed the field down to the finalists shown here, and then asked for two weeks in which to study the photograph before naming the winner!

First group picture taken of this year's 54 contestants for the title of "Miss America, 1950", at the annual beauty parade at Atlantic City, N.J. 46 states are represented along with New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, District of Columbia and Alaska.
Some 30,000 people jammed Ladd Memorial Stadium to cheer Yolande Betbeze who won this year's "Miss America" title, representing Mobile, Alabama, as she returns home. The home-folks gave her a bracelet containing 20 diamonds and 20 sapphires.
After a week in which 51 beauties competed in numerous contests in the Atlantic City Beauty Pageant, the judges selected (1) the 15 semi-finalists in the bathing beauty division; (2) the 5 finalists in evening gowns, representing, I. to r., Mississippi, Illinois, Colorado, California and Arizona; (3) Jacque Mercer, Litchfield, Arizona ranch girl, crowned "Miss America 1949" by Beve Shopp, last year's winner.
